Creating a beautiful smile using crowns

Crowns are constructed to restore teeth that are heavily filled, discoloured, broken or malaligned. Crowning involves removing more of the tooth than for veneers and replacing it with a colour matched porcelain ‘cap' to mimic the natural tooth. Old crowns were traditionally made using a metal substructure which accounts for the black lines you often see around the top of the crown where it meets the gum area.

This metal substructure also makes a crown look false, as light is unable to pass through the crown creating an artificial look. New all porcelain crowns made by the latest 'Procera' CAD/CAM technology, allow light to pass through the crown and tooth so it is reflected naturally and ensures a natural life like appearance. As there is no metal content present, there is no corrosive black line at the margin making it more bio- compatible and aesthetic but still incredibly strong.
