Tooth Whitening Post-Procedure Care
Tooth Whitening
Everyone’s teeth have a protective layer called the acquired pellicle. This layer contains the surface dental stains and is removed during a regular dental cleaning or the tooth whitening process. It takes twelve to twenty-four hours for the barrier to fully develop again. During this period we ask that you avoid the items listed below.
Your teeth may become sensitive during the tooth whitening procedure. This is quite usual and will stop once the treatment has finished. There will be no damage to your teeth. If your teeth do become sensitive use Sensodyne toothpaste (and rub some onto the tooth with your finger once you have finished tooth brushing). If sensitivity persists then speak to your dentist and we can prescribe you a fluoride gel to use immediately in the morning to stop the sensitivity. If you do have any sensitivity symptoms you may take whatever you would normally use for a headache.
Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions or concerns and we will be happy to assist you.
